Parenting Classes

The early months with a new baby are full of joys, challenges, and non-stop learning, for baby and for you.  Empowering Birth and Beyond is here with classes and information to guide you through these transitions.

Newborn Care Class
Empowering Birth and Beyond’s Newborn Care class mostly focuses on the first month of life.  We will cover a variety of topics to help expectant parents learn more about basic baby care and become familiar with newborn emotional and physical needs and on newborn behaviors.  We will focus on how to keep the baby safe and healthy, help you feel more confident and more prepared.  We will also give you resources to turn to in the future.

Topics include:

  • Feeding and burping
  • Holding the baby
  • Bathing

  • Entertaining/playing
  • Resources

As we continue to expand we expect our class offerings to also expand.  Currently we are considering holding the following classes in the near future:

  • Just for Daddy
    • This class is just for the dads. We will focus on skills you will need to know to take care of your newborn as well as discuss ways you can help the mother during pregnancy and labor. This class is special as only dads are invited to participate in the class and they are all preparing to experience the new changes a baby will bring to their family just as you are.
  • Happiest Baby on the Block
    • Learn a simple 5 step technique for calming crying and helping baby sleep better.
  • Sibling Support
    • In this class your children will learn about their new roles as a big brother or big sister. Annie is currently enrolled in the Sibling Support Specialist class and is working towards developing her lesson plan for this class and expects to have it available to teach in Summer 2008.
